North River Kennels is located in northern Tuscaloosa County, AL. We specialize in Treeing Walker hounds but have recently added other hound breeds to our kennel. We strive for dual dogs that have well balanced conformation but still continue to perform the orignal purpose of a hound - to hunt. Our hounds are part of our family and treated accordingly. We arent big money breeders, we might have a litter or two a year, if that, and only breed for betterment of our dogs. We occassionaly know other people that have dogs up for sale, and we'll post them on our "For Sale" page also. We enjoy hunting and competing with our dogs and seeing them do what they were born and bred for generations to do.
Our kennel truely began about twelve years ago as I watched my grandfather professionaly train upland hunting bird dogs and waterdog retrievers . I was forever tagging behind helping train, watching, hunting, and handling dogs myself even at a young age. A few years later I fell in love with hounds. Particulary Treeing Walkers. My first hound was a little six week old, tir color, male Walker named Copper. He was the first thing I ever wrote a check for out of my checkbook and the first pedigreed dog I had ever solely owned. Almost three years later, after alot of hard work, sweat, tears, seriously some blood, a few big and several small mistakes later, Copper is a coondog. Along the way I picked up a few more hounds, made alot of friends doing it, and decided its somthing I always want to have in my life. The words "our" when referring to the kennel has grown to contain to me myself, several good friends, my Dad who watches it all with a semi amused smile and is the occassional financial backer when needed, and Zack. My hounds are Copper, Honey, & Toxic. Krazy, Moko, Ripp, and Vegas are co-owned by my fiance Zack, who is new to all of this but is catching up with me quick. He prefers the hunting to the showing, but is a good sport all the way around, and travels with me to most events.
